ABOUT CREATING PERZIK

Perzik Swimwear is a brand where the artist, the painter, the designer, the dancer, the lifestyle/trend researcher, the nurturer, and the

‘I am a living human-being advocate’ in me come together. From a true passion at its core. Imagine a table with all the different me’s in a meeting, all wanting to be heard. I used it to create a business.

This brand was created out of a personal necessity. A need for playfulness and fierceness. It is a journey to develop your inner fire, to dare to be your own being and follow your own path. As a creative, this simply had to be my way of sharing. I needed to create something tangible, I needed color, I needed fashion with something that complements our shapes, clothing that is meant to be seen and worn with confidence.

ABOUT CREATING SWIMWEAR

From an early age, I have been influenced by numerous cultures. Our local dancing school gave me so much music, with the Surinamese and Curaçaoan community being very present. Dancing created love for the body that moved, for music combined with color and theatre. And, if there was something I wanted besides dancing and drawing, it was swimming. The happiness that came with a day spent at the subtropical swimming pool, is something that always stayed with me. The playful, unbothered, childhood memories.

Moving to ‘the big city’, it amplified all of these concepts. The appreciation for drawing became love for art, enjoying myself at the swimming pool became the desire for traveling to the sun and sandy beaches. 

At Art Academy a lot of my focus went to history of feminism, female empowerment and gender norms. Always finding an excuse to use drawing into the process. It was when I started to understand life outside studying, outside my jobs, researching the value of fashion that I developed my vision on clothing and what I wanted to see different in our current fashion industry. There is more to clothing than covering your skin; it is about what you feel with it and how you feel about yourself. And I want to hack this idea.

ABOUT PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

To become a more confident person who felt safe enough to play, to try new things, and get out of my comfort zone, I faced a lot of demons. The ones that tell you, you aren't enough, that you are not suited for your ideas. I had to face my beliefs, and disbeliefs. And I had to go through this entire process of actually creating Perzik to start changing it. Confidence came with following through on the things I wanted and the things I said I was going to do. This road, what we would also call healing process, isn't cute and pretty, but messy and hard work. My heart is very, very close to this brand. There for you can say that, for me, Perzik Swimwear is a spiritual journey. This inspired the vision:

Fresh and fruity on the outside,

but rock-hard strong from within. 

ABOUT THE CORE-EVENTS

There is a dream to inspire you to open up as well. To connect, to discover your creative, playful side, and to learn from mindfulness and awareness. To break down the rules of how you should be. To be able to lift yourself, and others, up. The value in that, is priceless.

Here is where the Core-Events come forward: hosting an event every month around different topics that help us become a stronger, smarter, healthier and a more aware being.
